Blokk Studio

About us

Design has to do more than look good. It has to work

Hospitality interior architecture and design from Heidi Skogen Graham & Natalie Moody, BLOKK Studio.

We believe physical space is never an afterthought. A restaurant people can’t stop talking about. A hotel they can’t wait to return to. A home that holds its meaning long after the work is complete.

Our job is to make sure design is part of what’s working, not something people have to work around.

[Let’s start the conversation]

It started with a meal that was excellent and a room that wasn’t

We’d booked a table at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Cumbria to mark the end of a project. The food was beautifully executed but the room wasn’t holding up its side of the experience -  the interior design diluted the food experience.

And that’s the point that stayed with us. It’s never just one element, it’s how everything works together.

Someone has to look at the whole picture. That’s what BLOKK exists to do.

Meet Heidi & Natalie

We met studying Interior Architecture and Design at Nottingham Trent University and worked together afterwards at a studio specialising in restaurant and bar design.

We eventually headed our separate ways. Natalie moved to the Netherlands and continued working in hospitality design and Heidi went on to work at interior design practices in Oslo and London before setting up her own studio. Years later, we came back together. We’d taken different paths but had the same instinct: design has to do more than look good. It has to work, commercially, operationally and for the people in it.

Between us, there’s over 40 years experience across the UK, Norway and the Netherlands. If you’d like to know more about who we are and how we work, we’d love to talk.

A design perspective shaped by three countries

Our studio sits on the edge of the Lake District with Blencathra on the horizon. The landscape shapes how we think, even when our projects take us well beyond Cumbria. Our cultural background influences our take on interior architecture and design.

  • Norwegian design is rooted in nature. Clean lines, natural light, high-quality natural materials like wood and wool, and a warmth, kos, that comes from care rather than clutter. That’s Heidi’s starting point.

  • Dutch design brings gezelligheid; atmosphere and ease alongside a muted palette, minimal detailing and a sensibility that knows how to be both beautiful and liveable. That’s Natalie’s influence.

  • And then there’s Britain, a country of extraordinary architectural range. Georgian townhouses, Jacobean manor houses, Victorian conversions and contemporary new builds. Each one asks something different from design. We’ve spent decades learning to listen.

Together, these perspectives give our work their structure, longevity and warmth. The Lake District keeps it honest.

Our design principles

Rooted in the Lake District, shaped by craft and guided by honesty, these are the principles we bring to every project.

Craft

The obvious details and the subtle ones. Materials, finishes, joinery, how things wear over time. We pay attention to it all.

Rootedness

The Lake District shapes our work. The materials we choose, the makers we work with and how we think about place. Our European perspectives add range but everything is grounded where each project is located.

Partnership

The best work comes from understanding the business behind the space. We get involved early, ask the right questions and stay close through to completion.

Honesty

We’re direct when it matters, about brand, budget, what will and won’t work. It leads to better decisions and better outcomes.

Environmentally conscious

We prioritise natural materials and work with local and British suppliers where possible. Our aim is always to create spaces built to last.

Work with us

We work best with independent and family-run businesses where the owners are building something they believe in. We also work with architects and residential developers with a vision for something different. If that’s you, we’d love to hear from you.
